Essay / Persuasive Essay on Social Media Addiction - 2194
Attacks can last forever on the victim due to the lack of ignorance of others reporting or stopping the bullying. In “Cyberbullying and Cyberthreats: Meeting the Challenge of Online and Social Aggression, Threats and Distress,” it says: “Adolescents are reluctant to talk to adults for fear of overreacting, restriction of online activities and possible retaliation by the cyberbully” (Willard, p. 1). Teenagers are afraid to report incidents like this because they think adults will overreact and don't believe someone can bully you online because bullying has always happened in person and not behind a screen. Teenagers are also afraid of the consequences that may result from the cyberbully if they report the harassment, as they may feel that the bullying will increase. Another concrete example: “Mary, an obese high school student, was changing in the locker room after gym class. Jessica secretly took a photo of herself with her cell phone camera. Within seconds the image was flying around cell phones at school (Willard, p. 1).” This example shows us how cyberbullying can become something big in a matter of seconds. The victim might be bullied at home and at school without any moment of peace. Not just on social media, but victims can also receive provocative emails and text messages on their phones.
