  • Essay / Similar Themes in Love is Not All by Edna St. Vincent...

The main theme of both poems is love. However, their perspectives on the subject differ slightly. In “Love is Not All” by Edna St. Vincent Millay talks about how love does not cure an illness or injury, but in some way, it remains a necessity in life. While in "Since Feeling is First" by EE Cummings describes how love is ultimately more important than logic and how you shouldn't worry about what you get out of love because it's essential for a life well balanced. The main theme in both poems, we see that love is not explainable, but is necessary for a well-balanced life. They both show that love is not necessarily logical. It can't be described or explained perfectly because you don't think about it. It just has to be in your life. Love never heals the sick or the weak, but it has a powerful influence on our well-being. Love is not just about living in the reality of things. However, at the end of it all, they still represent what love is to someone and the main theme of both of these poems is love. Even though they consist of the same theme, they are very different from the point of view of love and also structure. Their perspective on love may prevent these poems from being related because they are so different. “Love Is Not Everything” asks the question of what love can do for you, why do we value love so much. This also explains that although we are obviously incapable of healing the sick or fixing the broken. Whereas “Since feelings come first” says quite the opposite. It describes that love is very important to living a well-balanced life and you cannot question what you get from it. Edna St. Vincent Millay was born in 1892 and married Eugen Boisevain in 1923. Eugen and Edna were known to have an op...... middle of paper ......o the homeless. He also says that love is unnecessary in every possible way, but at the same time it remains essential to a well-balanced life. Ultimately, the theme of both stories remains the same. They both talk about love and how love isn't analyzable, it's just there. Works CitedMillay, Edna St. Vincent. “Love is not everything” Literature; Read, react, write. ED. Laurie G.
