Essay / Age is just a number in Peter Pan by JM Barrie
Age is just a numberIn Peter Pan by JM Barrie, young Wendy Darling and twelve-year-old John Darling, as well as Peter Pan, learn that maturity is not manifested by age, but by attitude, as shown in Wendy's motherly attitude, John's fighting spirit and decision-making, and the sometimes immaturity of Peter, even though he's older. Wendy uses her attitude to help raise the Lost Boys and give them the mother they need. John's stubborn attitude helps immensely in the fight against Captain James Hook, as he is intelligent in fights and is capable of making important decisions. Peter's immaturity shows that although he is significantly older than the Darlings, he exhibits many immature traits. In other words, age means nothing, just as Wendy, despite her young age, shows through her maternal attitude. For starters, Wendy seems to have a very motherly attitude towards the Lost Boys, which is something they desperately need. For example, the idea of a young pre-teen girl being a mother is strange to say the least, as this role is generally reserved for those of a reasonable age in most societies. However, the Lost Boys of Neverland never had a mother figure in the magical lands. Wendy takes over this role, a very strong and admirable gesture. Although she recognizes that she is young and has no experience as a mother, she realizes how important it is for the Lost Boys to have a mother, even if she is not their legitimate mother. Peter tells her that all they need is a kind, motherly person, and she accepts that role. Besides the role of mother, there is the work that many mothers of the time did, such as washing clothes and sewing. Wendy is not afraid to scold and punish boys if they were... middle of paper ......ature. Peter is the antithesis of maturity; he does not act in a way that is appropriate for adults. In summary, Peter is quite immature even though he is older than Wendy and John Darling, both of whom behave maturely throughout most of the book. All things considered, age has nothing to do with maturity, as demonstrated by Wendy Darling's mature motherly attitude, John Darling's mature mindset, and Peter Pan's childish attitude. Wendy becomes the mother of the Lost Boys throughout the book, guiding them to success. John shows that even though he is young, he can think about the fight against Hook like an adult and also make difficult decisions. Peter also proves that age has nothing to do with maturity through his arrogant, greedy, and rude actions. JM Barrie shows in Peter Pan that no matter how old a person is, they can have an impact on anyone as long as they are able to act maturely..
