    Ellis Island is a small island located in upper New York Bay. Angel Island is the largest island in San Francisco Bay, California. Ellis Island served as a national immigration station from 1892 to 1924. Angel Island was an immigration station from 1910 to 1940. Both islands contributed to America's growth by opening their doors to the world. Immigrants who came to America now had the opportunity to realize their own dreams and start a new life. The country was new, the government was rising, and it was giving immigrants a chance to succeed. Life was still going to be hard, but people now had the opportunity to make their dreams come true. Some immigrants came to America because other governments were failing or because they saw potential in America. Ellis Island and Angel Island played a major role in transforming America. Ellis Island and Angel Island were two places where immigrants could enter the United States. Ellis Island helped transform America by giving people of other races and ethnicities the opportunity to start their lives again. Ellis Island allowing people to enter the United States brought more people, diversity, and jobs. An estimated 17 million immigrants passed through Ellis Island between 1892 and 1924. More than a million Asians entered America through Angel Island (Lee, Erika, and Judy Young). America was soon made up mostly of immigrants. Without immigrants, the United States would not be as great as it is today. Ellis Island and Angel Island helped improve life by serving as a major immigration station from 1892 to 1924. The Ellis Island immigration station was built in 1892; it's on a small plot of land in the port. In 1898, Ellis Island was enlarged by dumping rocks around the exterior.
