  • Essay / How Teacher Body Language Affects the Classroom

Body language speaks louder than any words you can imagine. Whether a person tells people they love them, they're mad at them, or they couldn't care less about them. What matters is that body movements reveal thoughts, moods and attitudes. In a classroom, this can be crucial. Consciously and unconsciously, the teacher's body informs the students of what is really happening. In the competitive and complex world of teaching, the ability to communicate with clarity, confidence and reliability is crucial to success. Too often this capacity is ignored. Logic and solutions are worthless if they are not communicated in a way that persuades, motivates and inspires listeners. All day long, the teacher's body transmits messages about his or her attitude, mood, and general state of being. Students can determine what messages the teacher is conveying; by the way they use their bodies. Although body language began in the past with ancient ancestors and long before vocal sounds evolved into sophisticated words, sentences and paragraphs, it is only in the last 60 years that body language has been seriously studied. During this period, people began to appreciate the value of body language as a tool to improve interpersonal communication.
