We all know the timeless story of Frankenstein: mad scientist goes mad, creates a monster from dead parts, the monster turns on him, and the rest is history. However, what if I told you that this classic tale of science gone wrong was written by none other than a teenage girl? Her name is Mary Shelley and she is much more than the author of Frankenstein; she is also one of the most important and influential writers of all time. Nicknamed the “grandmother of science fiction,” Shelley was unlike any other woman of her time; in fact, she can even be called a model citizen. He was a unique person who fought against the norms of the industrial revolution. Taking risks, being independent, rebellious, daring, clever, intelligent – these are just some of the many qualities that the famous author possessed. As a pivotal figure in literature and women's rights, her contemporary colleague Lord Byron could not be more accurate when he referred to her as an "ordinary person".
