    The World War, or the Great War as it is now known, was the first large-scale international conflict that Earth had experienced. What began as a European conflict will eventually involve nations around the world. New technologies and industries have shown crueller and faster ways than ever to decimate armies. Countries that were already on the verge of exploding literally did so. It was the entry of the United States after three years of neutrality that helped end the war with a victory for the Allies. The end of the war would not come without a heavy toll in human lives and the environment. The scars left by the Great War would linger in the following years and inevitably lead to World War II. The origins of the First World War began in Europe. European nations fought seemingly endless wars against each other. By the early 1900s, nationalism was fervent across the European continent.
