  • Essay / Food Labels - 1104

You know the sayings “you are what you eat” and “abs are made in the gym and revealed in the kitchen? » Well, it's hard for people to realize what they're actually eating or what they're cooking in the kitchen if they don't understand how their food is produced. Most so-called "healthy foods" offered at local grocery stores are nutritionally deficient and full of chemicals, pesticides, and additives that disrupt your hormonal balance. Even though companies and lobbyists don't want consumers to know what's in them or how they're produced, we need more transparent food labels so people know what they're putting in their bodies. As a customer, you pay for this product. You therefore have the right to know if it is a good long-term investment. A food label is defined as a source of advertising for a food product. Manufacturers try to make the label of their food products as attractive as possible by using bright colors, bold text, dietary claims and lots of information. Although too much information on a food label can cause painful headaches for consumers; it is worth it because of the many health and nutritional problems one can get from eating this product. By law, manufacturers must follow the terms of the standard code regarding what appears on the label of their foods. “The Nutrition Education and Labeling Act of 1990 established requirements for certain label information to ensure that food labels truly inform consumers about the nutrients and ingredients contained in the package” ( Webb 51). In 2012, the FDA revised the details of the information, but in general, each packaged food must include: the common or usual name of the product, a bar code, the name and address of the manufacturer, packager or distributor, the net content of the product. in terms of weight, m...... middle of paper ......n electrical equipment because the labels are there for the consumer's own safety. Warning labels should be available on all foods so that consumers can get an accurate description of what they are purchasing and how it will affect their health, whether positively or negatively. Food labeling can be misleading and confusing, as you can see. Manufacturers should put a stop to this and simplify and redesign labels for us consumers. I think this will help shoppers understand what they are eating and trust manufacturers on what they are making for us. If more consumers find out what's really in the foods they eat and that food labels aren't always accurate, they will stop buying their foods. What's the point of putting information labels if it's not the truth. I hope manufacturers will make a change in this regard and make it easier for us to understand and trust the labels more..
