In “When the branches get tangled in a reconstructed family tree” (2012), Elissa Gootman talks about lifestyle and maintaining relationships for blended families and members. In general, stepfamily refers to two adults living in the same house, either married or cohabiting with at least one child from a previous family (Ch 13, P410). Today, the number of ex-stepfamilies is increasing very rapidly. Gootman (2012) focuses on families or stepfamilies that have experienced divorce. She conducted several interviews with people who remain in stepfamilies to find out the answer to the question “How do ex-stepfamilies manage?” » Interview results show that most people do not have a close relationship with their ex-in-laws. Another survey result from the Pew Research Center shows that second marriages have a higher divorce rate than first marriages (Ch 13, P415). Some of them broke up their new relationship because of their partner's ex-beautiful wives.
