  • Essay / Molière Film - 915

In our class discussion, Jean Baptiste Poquelin, also known as Molière, is presented as one of the “Dramaturges” alongside Pierre Corneille and Jean Baptiste Racine. Born January 15, 1622 and died February 17, 1673 following a pulmonary complication due to hypochondria. He is known for his humor and satire. In 1643, Molière and the actress Madeleine Béjart joined the Théâtre de l'Illustre. After two years, their troupe collapsed and Molière was imprisoned for debt. Fortunately, in 1658, Molière returned after a period of absence and his troupe returned to Paris. A French film was created in honor of Molière. The film is about the actor and playwright Molière, considered one of the greatest masters of comedy in Western literature. Molière is imprisoned for failing to pay his debts, then released after two strangers save him. It was at the time when Molière suddenly disappeared. There has been much speculation about what happened to him, but then Molière finds someone who can help him, Jourdain. Molière enters Jourdain's house as a priest to give lessons to Jourdain's youngest daughter. Jourdain is a rich man married to Elmire. However, Jourdain falls in love with Célimène who is a widow. Jourdain wants to write a play for Célimène to confess his love for the magnificent lady. He needs someone to refine his work and an acting coach, Molière accepts the position who is dressed as a religious man, Monsieur Tartuffe. Quite quickly, Molière realizes that Jourdain's talent only exists in his imagination competing for the love of Célimène with Dorante, who attaches himself to Jourdain for money. French literature of the 17th century is most often equated with classicism alongside the period of King Louis XIV. Compared to... middle of paper ...... Jansen for Jansenism – people are already redestined, whether they go to hell or heaven, which earned him a reprimand from the Jesuits. It is also part of the tendency of French culture that a typical French person chooses the conservation of emotions and reactions. Moreover, the typical Frenchman thinks before acting, he considers sensitivity first. Unlike Jourdain, he was too excited to do things even though he knows he can't do it. He tends to try things even if it is beyond his control, making them contrary to what being a gentleman is. Another difference between the discussion and the film is that France was united under the banner of Christianity – Charlemagne, but Elmire mentioned to Mr. Tartuffe that people in the church are pretentious and that in real life Molière has in attacked the church. This “unification” is not absolute because problems have been raised against the Church..
