Essay / Similarities and differences between Shakespeare's works...
Macbeth versus HamletShakespearean playwrights Macbeth and Hamlet are both very well-known tragedies. They have a lot in common but are different in some ways. Both plays involve greed but the characters are different. There are certain characters who have the same qualities like Hamlet and Malcolm who both killed for revenge. Macbeth and Hamlet have different characters even though they both kill. The tragedies are the same in that many people are killed, but the reasons are very different. Macbeth's need for power caused him to lose control while Hamlet's need for revenge caused him to lose his life. Hamlet and Macbeth fight for what they want and end up being killed. What they have in common is that their journeys both begin with something evil and spiritual. For example, Hamlet initially sees the ghost of his father and Macbeth comes up against witches and their prophecies. These apparitions lead them both to their horrible fates. They each have a relationship with supernatural events. Macbeth acts on the prophecies given to him by the witches and makes him hungry for power. Hamlet feels obliged to follow the instructions of his father's ghost. Both Hamlet and Macbeth make choices that lead them to do evil and horrible things. They each end up killing a king. Macbeth seems to lose his morals because of supernatural apparitions. Additionally, their conscience makes them question themselves and go crazy. Their decisions drive them and everyone around them crazy. Lady Macbeth, for example, goes mad because of her conscience and her husband's evil actions. Another thing the plays have in common is that they both have characters who seem to go crazy and lose... middle of paper. .....r. Hamlet, on the other hand, thinks carefully and has worries and hesitations about what would be the right thing. They both die but Hamlet dies in a respectable manner avenging his father's death, while Macbeth kills many people to get what he wants. Macbeth and Hamlet both start the same way with supernatural events and end the same way with lots of blood and death. They have a lot in common, like bloodshed and madness, but the main characters have different goals. Hamlet killed for revenge while Macbeth only killed for power and greed. Macbeth and Claudius both killed a king because of their greed, but they both end up dying at the end of each play. Malcolm and Hamlet achieve their goal of revenge, but Hamlet ends up dying as well. The plays address largely the same themes and tragedies; however the main objectives are distinct.
