During this time, I have received accolades that have reached the Pentagon and received prestigious awards for my hard work and dedication . I later found out that it was a northern stereotype that all southerners were slow and unintelligent. Not only has this persisted, but it has also resulted in negative stereotypes of African American men. I have always been seen as an angry black man, although admittedly my peers have never seen me be angry or raise my voice. Many consider me to have a tall, tall stature, leading to the stereotype of imprisonment. A close colleague said to me, "Brice, I know you're a very nice guy and I've never seen you angry, but I would hate to be in a dark alley at night with you." This statement confused me because I would never be in a dark alley at night myself. So I asked this person why you were saying that and why this reference wasn't made to another coworker who was white and above me. His response was, "He doesn't count, he's white and you know you are.".
