As I arrived at the employee lobby doors, I realized I had forgotten my company issued ID card. The only way to get into the building was to wait for someone else to open the door with their ID so I could sneak in behind them. Once inside, I began walking down the long hallway to my cabin. That's when I realized something. I hadn't worked for this company in years. Why was I there? I hoped no one would notice I was there without my ID. Usually this is when I wake up from this recurring dream. I spent 7 years of my life in this place. I worked in a call center for a company that sold shoes. It was in a large building located next to a river. The side of the building facing the river was all glass, which provided a wonderful view. When you work in a cubicle all day, being able to see the outside so easily is a great thing. The call center had many separate departments. During my 7 years with the company, I changed departments several times. Each department had different responsibilities, so I got to see many different aspects of the company. I was first hired to take customer orders over the phone. I worked 5 days a week for 8 hours a day. That’s 40 hours a week talking to people on the phone. All this practice has allowed me to be pretty good at my job. My supervisor noticed my performance and after a few months, I was offered a temporary position in the credit card department. They needed extra help for the holiday season. Expensive shoes are a common purchase for people using stolen credit cards. The main task of the credit card department was to prevent fraudulent orders. My task was to make phone calls to...... middle of paper ......s I had a new job. After years of having people working under me, it was nice to be down there again. The IT department felt like a separate business in some ways. This was a separate part of the building and required a special ID badge to enter. I was back to taking phone calls. However, instead of taking calls from customers, I was now receiving calls from people in the call center. Calls would come into my office if a piece of technology wasn’t working properly. It was my job to contact the people in my department responsible for resolving these issues. I held this position until I left the company. I regretted leaving that job for a long time and I still miss a lot of things. These memories now help me move forward in my studies. I'm starting a new career. There's another cabin in my future. Maybe then the recurring dream of my old job will disappear.
