    The Greek author Homer wrote an epic poem called The Odyssey, about a man named Odysseus. The poem centers on one man's journey home after a ten-year long and violent war. Odysseus and his crew attempt to reach their homeland, Ithaca. They are tired and hungry and will do anything to get home. Little does Odysseus know that greed will make this return journey take ten more years. Odysseus and his crew show greed for the first time when they land on the island of Cicones. They noticed the city was less defensive and asked if they should attack. Odysseus recognizes that it's tempting, but thinks it might ruin their chance. They argue that the gods “threw this big little city into our laps…They (the gods) would be angry if we refused their gift…It would be bad luck not to attack” (Evslin, 5). Odysseus already had Trojan treasure, but they decided to attack. After having plundered the city of all its treasures, they got drunk on the beach. While drunk and not knowing what was happening, the Cicones return and attack Odysseus' crew....
