  • Essay / Donnie Darko the Paranoid Schizophrenic - 1262

Donnie Darko is a teenager with a history of violence and who gets into trouble. He has problems with his family and argues easily with his parents and siblings. One of his problems is that he tends to fall asleep in his bed and then wake up somewhere other than home, like on a golf course or on top of a mountain. His parents put Donnie in therapy for paranoid schizophrenia. At the beginning of the film, they discover that he has stopped taking his medication for this disorder. One of the problems this disorder poses for Donnie is that he believes a rabbit is watching him. He talks to him every chance he gets, telling him to do terrible things and makes Donnie believe that the world is going to end at a specific time. Donnie leaves one night as he tends to often do in his sleep, because he was following his rabbit friend, Frank, who told Donnie to "follow him into the future." He returns home to find firefighters and police covering his street. He discovers that a piece of a plane fell in his room that night, and if he had been at home, it would have killed him. After this event, he tells his therapist about Frank, telling him how Frank told him that the world was coming to an end. After this session, her therapist decides she wants to try hypnotherapy. Frank later asks Donnie if he believes in time travel. Afterwards, Donnie goes to a teacher at his school and asks him about time travel. His teacher explains some of it to him, then gives Donnie a book on the theory of time travel. This book was written by a confused old lady from Donnie's neighborhood, who is always walking to and from his mailbox. Donnie talks to her and she simply tells him that "Every living creature on earth dies alone...... middle of paper ...... standing as it ends with a wide variety of reasons on how the movie ended like this did. Some people suggest that Donnie does not suffer from the disorder he was diagnosed with in the film. Many say that he is really having a dream, that he is being shown the future, and some. even think he's experiencing a looping tangent universe Viewers think the parents made him see a psychiatrist to help them feel better about their child's behavior, so they had something else to blame, other than themselves. parenting I chose this movie because he had symptoms and was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and needed to see a psychiatrist for it I also chose this movie not just because of the disorder. , but also because it easily distorts the viewer's mind as the film progresses.
