Social justice empowers individuals to become more empowered and self-aware. This gives individuals equal access and decreases bias and negative stereotypes. The minority in society is oppressed by the dominant and social justice strives to reduce this. I am privileged and that allows me to get an education to help others. I will use this to help others gain the same privileges as me and be able to build the future they want. Throughout college, I had friends who were made fun of or refused to join certain social groups unless they were with me. Simply because they had a different skin color or their culture was different, they were not allowed to play tag on the playground. Associating negative stereotypes and prejudices, regarding culture or origin ethnic, to a young child is not acceptable. Allowing a child to participate in a game of tag only when a member of the dominant group is accompanying them is also not acceptable. This is a major problem in society and not just when it comes to children. Teaching children to become culturally competent and aware from a young age will help reduce this social problem. I strive to be culturally competent enough to have the ability to help diverse people on the path to empowerment, safety, and self-healing. Training myself is just the first step, joining the social work program will help me expand my scope of knowledge. Thanks to this, I will be able to become a better social worker and
