Creativity is something that cannot be taught but is learned through self-reflection. Creativity requires one to be able to express one's thoughts through words or other forms of expression. Creativity allows students to find practical solutions to everyday problems by applying them to real-life situations. This teaches students that there may be more than one way to solve a problem, but no one solution is better than another. “Creatively successful people go beyond just the work they do, becoming sources of new ideas, discoveries and inventions” (Zagursky). Students who are more creative thinkers; instead, standardized test takers may struggle to progress in class. According to Kim Zagursky, the Torrance Test is the most widely used creativity test in the world and the best indicator of creative success. The Torrance Test, named after its creator E. Paul Torrance, was developed in the late 1950s as a potential tool for individualizing student instruction (Zagursky). Unfortunately, over time, creativity diminishes among our students. There is growing concern about their ability to form their own opinions about the ideas they have read. The Sternberg Kaleidoscope policy questions were designed to measure creativity, analytical, practical, and wisdom-based skills and attitudes (DiMaria 55).
