Essay / The First Year Seminar (Fys) - 1521
During the First Year Seminar (FYS), we learned a host of essential skills that we can use to apply the rest of our college experience and beyond. late. Throughout the first week of class, we learned about Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs). These are basically skills that students are expected to know in depth by the end of the semester. The six main SLOs that were presented in the majority of FYS courses, the first is access to diverse information through focused research, active discussions, and collaboration with peers. This skill is important for academic and professional life because it is important that one is able to converse appropriately and knowledgeably among peers. This is a great skill to have because it shows that a person can work well in a team. The second skill of SLOs is the ability to separate facts from inferences and relevant information from irrelevant information, and to explain the limitations of the information. It is essential to develop this skill because by acquiring problem-solving skills, one can overcome tricky situations. Problem-solving skills are ideal for academic and professional life because one can solve difficult problems quickly and efficiently, without this skill wasting time. The third skill of SLOs is evaluating the credibility, accuracy, and reliability of conclusions drawn from the information. This skill is valuable in academic and professional life because it allows a person to support their arguments for articles with reliable, credible, and accurate sources that support the information. Otherwise the argument has no supporting evidence to continue its argument and get its message across, if not properly understood the argument becomes irrelevant middle of paper..... .t of the opportunity. The advice I would give to freshmen in the next few years is to not go crazy for boys or girls during the first semester, at least because you need to focus on what you really came here for, which is higher education. It's hard enough adjusting to university life, with different teaching methods for all the assignments. The only emotional distress one should feel, but not the one one should feel, is simply school-related stress. Stressing about being in a relationship isn't worth it. A second tip I would like to give is that studying or doing homework in your dorm room is not effective, you get distracted easily. Go out to the library and do your homework faster in a peaceful and calm environment. I didn't learn this until the end of the semester, I wish I had gone to the library earlier so maybe my grades would be better than they are this semester.
