  • Essay / Advertising - 763

Advertising has been around for many decades. It is used to promote the company's products and services. Advertising has negatively influenced the way of thinking of children and adolescents of this generation. This has affected the diet of the young audience, increased consumerism among children and changed their attitude. The use of advertising has had a negative impact on children's diets. Since the number of children watching television has increased, they are more exposed to advertising. They eat more than usual because they spend their time watching television at breakfast, lunch and dinner. In a study done by Yasare Akta Sarnas, the researcher informed readers that 90% of children who watched television ate or drank while watching television (Sarnas, 2006, p. 140). The food they ate or drank was not healthy. Advertisements for food products are increasing and many companies are using the need for aesthetic sensation to attract their audience. They make their product attractive and appealing. They use models to promote their product to attract men. Many companies use a similar strategy to attract younger audiences. The most advertised items are candy/chocolate, chips, dairy products and breakfast cereals (Sarnas, 2006, p.140). It is very rare to see an advertisement about fruits, vegetables and all other important nutrients. The reason childhood obesity is increasing is due to the amount of bad publicity they are exposed to. If they had been exposed to advertising beneficial to their health, the results would have been different. In his research, the researcher concluded that young children paid more attention to advertising than older children (Sarnas, 2006, p. 142). Having an unhealthy middle of paper......has a huge influence on the type of food young viewers eat. They persuade them to spend money on toys/clothes. Unfortunately, children are very vulnerable when they are young. These advertisements therefore lead them to a negative change in behavior. In today's world, parents should pay special attention to their children because the world is not safe. We are all victims of advertising. He is around us at all times. Works CitedArnas, Y. (2006).
