Essay / An Analysis of the Education System - 1261
An issue of concern to Malaysians highlighted that the current education system is not serving the nation well. In An Education System Fit for Malaysia, Mr. Bakri Musa, a well-known surgeon and writer of Malaysian origin, who frequently writes on issues affecting his native country, sets out his views on the paucity of the education system implemented currently in our country. He presents his own observations and experiences in the form of an essay in which he shares his arguments and analysis of the education system. It examined the system from certain angles such as accessibility, equity and quality. This article is well written with supporting evidence but it also involves some personal assumptions from the author himself. The summary of this article is above all that the author raises the question of the shortcomings of the education system by sharing his observation when he began to become aware of the difference in environment between the private nursery school where his child is educated and the public school where his neighbor's daughter is enrolled. He also shares his own experiences teaching at universities and secondary schools. It indicates that the system is not well organized and there are still many shortcomings of the system such as environment and insufficient study materials and teachers. The students themselves are adamant in their studies and practically accept what they learned at school. In the second part of the article, the author studies the education system through three main perspectives: access, equity and quality. He uses the Third International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) to suggest that the Malaysian government lacks initiatives to improve its education system towards middle of paper creativity and dynamism in learning. institution (Chok 2007). From my overall point of view, this article is educational and has ultimate merit, especially when the author examines the education system in sufficient depth from the three perspectives of access, equity and quality. By highlighting the problem facing the nation in the education system, with an illustration of the factors and comparisons with other countries, I believe this can be a platform for the government to resolve the problem and search for the best system education of the country to define it as a goal and make improvements. In conclusion, although the arguments presented in the article show some presence of bias, the author does a good job of illustrating these arguments with supporting evidence. It gives readers a clear picture and related information about how our country's education system works..
