  • Essay / Citizen Journalism - 687

At the beginning of this century, a new type of media appeared to the public, namely citizen journalism. A citizen journalist is a person who works alone from home with their phone or home computer to obtain information and publish it using a blogger or social media like Facebook or Twitter. Even though citizen journalism helps society by providing varied and quality information, it still lacks freedom because of the government and traditional media. Usually, governments don't like to support citizen journalism because it is difficult to control. It also spreads information that governments don't like, which is why governments try to impose restrictions on citizen journalism. On the other hand, governments may want to support traditional media for many reasons, one of which may be easy to control, but what is traditional media? Traditional media is an organization that has a group of professionals who study media or have worked in media for a long time. Although many people think that citizen journalism does not have the right to write and publish information, I think that citizen journalism needs more freedom to write and publish information for three reasons: It can publish information quickly, expressing the voice of all kinds of people. opinion and can cover information that cannot be covered by traditional media. The first reason why citizen journalism should have the right to write and publish information is that it can publish information more quickly than traditional media. For example, when Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans on August 23, 2005, citizen journalism released video and photos of the devastation in front of every traditional news outlet within minutes. In contrast, the traditional news agency reported the news from New Orleans by ...... middle of paper ......ple, in 2008, CNN News publishes information from citizen journalism that is the COE of an apple that had a heart attack and that the Apple company is losing money. In summary, as we can see, citizen journalism has great benefits for our society. They cover and bring information that we could not find in traditional media. In addition to this, citizen journalism presents a new side of media, which allows everyone to express their opinion and show the other side of the opinion that they understand. Also, they express all kinds of opinions and give everyone the opportunity to share their opinion. Additionally, in the future, we as people will be able to distinguish between real and fake news because we will have a wide variety of sources. Also, we will understand the other aspect that traditional media does not offer. For these reasons, I support citizen journalism and hope to achieve it..
