Essay / The Dangers of Euthanasia and Physician-Assisted Suicide
Euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide have been a hot topic of debate for some time now. Some think it's immoral, while others see no harm in it. No matter what anyone believes, euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide should become legal for doctors and patients. Death is a personal situation in life. By banning euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide, the government is interfering and violating the personal freedom and human rights of patients! Euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide have the power to save the lives of family members and other sick patients. Euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide should become legal, but there should be strict rules and guidelines to be followed and enforced by both the patient and the doctor. If suicide is not a crime, why should euthanasia and assisted suicide be? Euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide should be legal and the government should not be allowed to interfere with death. “The greatest good is done by allowing people to conduct their own affairs with as little intrusion from government as possible” (Gittelman 372). Dying is a part of life and since it's your body, you should have complete control over it. Euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide should be available to patients because they have the right to choose their “final exit” (Manning 26). Patients should not have to experience the fear of being “trapped” on life support with “no control” (Manning 27). They should have the opportunity to die with a sense of pride and dignity, not with shame, pain and shame. Making someone live longer against their will is simply immoral. By denying the patient the option of euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide, the government is in the middle of paper......ns. Patients should not be so medically ill that they cannot make this decision. Patients must be fully aware and understand the implications of their decision. Everything should be documented, even filmed, so that the doctor does not lose his job, be prosecuted or, even worse, go to prison! Euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide should become legal and available as an option for patients. Death is a personal situation and a decision in life. Euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide have the power to save lives, and by interfering with the government and failing to legalize it, it interferes with and violates the personal freedom and human rights of patients. Euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide should become legal for patients; however, there should be strict rules and guidelines to follow. If suicide is not a crime, why should euthanasia and assisted suicide?
