  • Essay / The Miracle Worker - 692

Everyone is born with the ability and desire to communicate and learn. Everyone wants to explore the world around them, to understand and differentiate objects. A person desires to interact with the people around him; to know, love and be loved. Everyone has the ability and desire to speak and communicate. This does not exclude people with disabilities. In The Miracle Worker, released in 2000, tells the story of Anne Sullivan and her struggle to teach Helen Keller, a blind, deaf and mute child. At the start of the film, the family, convinced that there is no hope for Helen, considers placing her in an institution. However, in a last effort to control the child, Anne Sullivan is sent to the Kellers to help young Helen. Throughout the film, Anne attempts to teach Helen not only how to behave but also how to communicate. Anne accomplishes this through sign language, teaching Helen each letter and word by placing the signed letter in Helen's palm, soon discovering that the child is in fact intelligent. Anne faces constant obstacles, all due to the pity of the Kellers, who questioned Anne's teaching methods, rather than Helen's disability itself. Later, allowed to live alone with Helen for two weeks, Helen learns how to behave as well as an incredible amount of words. Ann, however, is unable to achieve a break with Helen, who still cannot connect words to reality. When the two return home, Helen returns to her old ways. As a form of discipline, Anne takes Hélène to fill a pitcher of water in which Hélène knocked him over during a fit of anger, and it is at the water pump that Hélène finally manages to pierce, connecting the word “water” to the wet fluid that comes out of the pump. It's in the middle of paper......a name or meaning. Because her communication skills could not be developed, Helen was mute and people around her pitied her. Yet the film reveals that, despite Helen's limitations, she still has the ability and desire to communicate and learn. I think The Miracle Worker is an incredible film that accurately portrays the disabilities of blindness, deafness, and muteness. Many can understand better by watching this film as it depicts the struggles of the family, the teacher and the child. It reveals that with the right help, no disabled child is lost. This film not only accurately depicts an almost wild child, but also a brilliant child who desires to know and communicate with the world. This shows that love, pity and faith towards the child are all key factors in his growth. This shows that you should not lose confidence in a disabled child.
