Essay / The importance of death in Catch 22 - 1087
Yossarian refuses the two corporals to carry out further missions, continuing his care only for his safety. In response, the two corporals hatch a plan to put Yossarian on the ground by lying and making him appear like a hero. This really illustrates how greedy these two men were. First, they would do this so they could get rid of Yossarian because he was a pain to them, so that they would have an easier life without him. Plus, if they didn't kick him out as a fake hero, they'd have to court-martial him. This would greatly harm both men in their attempt to advance in rank. They had to do everything they could to appear good at their jobs and progress, even if they didn't. So, they were willing to lie about a man being a hero just to make themselves look better and make their job easier. This action was intended to prevent their own goals from being harmed, but also to avoid the truth of what happened, showing how much they were willing to give up to help.
