  • Essay / Narrative Life of Frederick Douglass - 1100

In this essay, I will talk about the life narrative of Frederick Douglass and how his life was representative of the narrative about slavery. I will first talk about the difference between urban and plantation slavery. Then I will talk about each type of slavery through the events experienced by Frederick Douglass. At the end, I will describe the impact of slavery on race relations. Many people have a different way of thinking about Fredrick Douglass's account, so some people may think his depiction of slavery was adequate while others may think his account was not fair. Many people say the story was an autobiography of his life and others say the story was written to reveal the brutal acts of slavery and the hardships endured as a slave. For most of his childhood, Douglass did not have as harsh a life as other slaves, but as the years passed and the older he got, the worse it became for him as a slave. He not only lived as an urban slave during his childhood, but also lived as a plantation slave during his older years. The life of an urban slave was not like that of a plantation slave. Fredrick Douglass gave a good description of the events that took place in his life, but one cannot rely on his stories because his life as a slave is different from that of a plantation slave. The book therefore tells how he saw things and what he felt. The things he experienced in his life were the same and different in many ways from any other slave. The great Fredrick Douglass tries to describe the life of a slave as best he can. He does this because he could only talk about slavery through events he experienced because slavery was different for others and different...... middle of paper .... .. of property and that they could do whatever they wanted with them. They did not care about the welfare of the slave. They did not view slaves as people, but as a profit to be made. Unlike the South, the North had a somewhat different view. They still treated African Americans as an inferior race, but some Northerners at least treated them in some sort of humane manner. I think slavery was wrong in the first place, but if it hadn't been for slavery, a lot of the things that would have happened could have happened.___________________________________________________Story of the Life of Frederick Douglass chapter 1 page 24Story of the life of Frederick Douglass chapter 1 page 24Story of the life of Frederick Douglass life of Frederick Douglass page 49Story of the life of Frederick Douglass page 70Story of the life of Frederick Douglass page 102
