The story weaves in and out of each of the three narratives and simultaneously between reality and fantasy. One moment the story will be set in the modern present and the next moment it will be set in another dimension of space on a fantasy planet called Zycron. The story is told by the sole survivor of the once wealthy and powerful Canadian family, Iris Chase Griffen, who recounts past events through her personal memoir. She attempts to recount her family's past, focusing on her arranged husband and the death of her sister Laura Chase. Iris begins her narrative during the historical period of two world wars and the Great Depression toward the end of the 19th century, thus providing the basis for the second narrative. Writing from her own personal file, Iris connects the family history of the Chase and Griffen families, as she attempts to uncover the causes and events that led to her sister Laura's suicide. The second story offered to us would be written by Laura Chase and published after her death by her sister Iris. This novel within the novel is called "The Blind Assassin", which tells the story of two anonymous lovers, a woman of high social class and a young fugitive who meet secretly in these dreary street rooms. The third story is a science fiction tale interwoven within the novel within a novel, told by the anonymous man in the alleys, about an assassin and a crippled girl in this fairy tale town of Sakiel Norm on planet Zycron. In addition to all the different stories, many local newspaper and magazine articles are scattered throughout the chapters of Iris's personal memoir. Towards the end of the novel, a big twist occurs when readers discover that Iris is actually the author of the story "Blind Assassin ».”
