  • Essay / Experience with my group project - 894

Experience with my group projectWorking with my group for the project gave me the opportunity not only to understand and learn the culture of group work, but also to better understand the members of my group or my classmates. . Despite some difficulties and discomforts, I thought it was a great learning process that I had ever had in my life. Our project was related to the process of discovering the average student's life through the ways they would go about becoming rich. , which was an interesting topic for me. At the beginning, my group hesitated between this subject and another subject which was linked to sport; however, we decided to choose the former because of its close relationship with American culture and student life. Becoming rich was the economic ambition of many people, and I wanted to know how this would be viewed from a social science perspective. After completing the project, I learned that it is difficult to conduct interviews and surveys without asking leading questions. My group first started a few interviews with open-ended questions, and the variation in responses was quite large. Next, we refined the answers by modifying the questions to multiple choice; however, this could lead to biased responses if our sample was too small. The experience working with my group was fun and enjoyable when my group members came to class or had in-person meetings after class. I remember having two or three times the opportunity to discuss the project with the whole group and I really appreciated these discussions. Kevin pointed out some great ideas for our project when he went to class. Mathew usually went to class and chatted with me. He also spent his time on Thanksgiving Day doing statistics for our way of communicating with others and persuading them to listen to some of my ideas. For example, the idea of presenting the song at the start of our presentation was heavily contested at first, and I would have no chance of presenting it if my group members went to class to discuss the project the day we were authorized to do so. make our final decisions. Completing the group project gave me the opportunity to not only learn more about my group's chosen topic, but also interact with others during interviews and group work. This process helped me understand and experience the real work environment and prepare for my future career. The project also reinforced something I considered important in my life: I couldn't judge people by my own values; sometimes, I had to put myself in everyone's place and context to understand them and their behavior.
