This legendary general was born on February 12, 1893 in Clark, Missouri (“Biography of Omar Bradley”). The population of Clark, Missouri today is around 300, and you wouldn't think that a small-town boy like Bradley would one day have the opportunity to grow up and become an officer in the military . But while Bradley was working as a boilermaker at the Wabash Railroad, his Sunday school teacher asked him to take the entrance exam to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. Bradley originally planned to save money to attend the University of Missouri in Columbia to study law, but when the opportunity presented itself, he immediately took it. At West Point, his focus on sports, particularly baseball, prevented him from excelling academically. He was considered one of the most outstanding college baseball players in the United States during his junior and senior years at West Point.
