Catchy TitleMany students find it very difficult to be the master's student they want to be. A huge part of being a masters student is knowing how to set goals correctly. There are three characteristics commonly found in master's students. Setting goals brings responsibility, a feeling of accomplishment and relaxation. When defined precisely, goals can bring many benefits. There are many benefits to setting goals. Before you set a goal, it's essential to understand why it's important for you to do it. First, when setting your goals, become aware of your strengths and weaknesses. Knowing your strengths is empowering, however, the feeling may not be the same when faced with your weaknesses. Many people view weaknesses as a bad thing, but it just shows where more work and focus is needed. It is imperative that both are recognized. If they are not recognized, the plan developed to achieve the goal will not be as effective because you will spend equal time on strengths and weaknesses. If you recognize both, less time will be needed on the strong areas and more time can be spent on the weaker areas. Setting goals also gives you something to work towards and a guide with. This guide will help chart a path to achieve the goal. This will not only help in achieving goals but will also be very beneficial for other things in life as it also brings responsibilities. Responsibility can become rather scary and overwhelming when setting goals, but accountability brings a sense of accomplishment, and after achieving the goal, a sigh of relief will overcome the anxiety. If accountability is a weakness, then one thing that can be done to lighten the workload is to separate wishful thinking... middle of paper ... No one likes the feeling of not succeeding, but there is always something rewarding to try. These are just a few reasons why people don't set goals. Even though there are a million reasons I could use not to set goals, there are a million and one reasons why I should. I have found goal setting to be very beneficial. Often, I find myself setting goals without even meaning to. Using a planner has allowed me to set and achieve my goals effortlessly. I use the SMART goal format and focus on the measurability of my goal. I set times and dates in my calendar and was very successful in achieving my goals. Goal setting is a very valuable part of being a master's student. Goals provide expectations and you are the judge.
