The need to teach foreign languages ​​to young learners (aged 5-12) has been widely recognized and, as a result, recent years have witnessed an explosion in the number of children learning English as a foreign language as part of their primary education. . In fact, in many countries around the world there has been a trend toward lowering the age at which schoolchildren begin learning foreign languages. As young language learners constitute the fastest-growing segment of the primary school population, there is considerable interest in their learning. This leads to growing concern about their appropriate assessment, since assessment has always been considered an integral part of everyday teaching practice (Ioannou-Georgiou and Pavlou, 2003; Linn and Miller, 2005; McKay, 2006).
