Geoffrey ChaucerGeoffrey Chaucer was a poet, a writer and of course a diplomat. Geoffrey Chaucer was born in the early hours of the 1340s to John Chaucer, a winemaker and assistant to the king's butler. As a child he was a foil to the Countess of Ulster. (Lombardi) Chaucer was most famous for writing his unfinished Canterbury Tales. (Geoffrey Chaucer) He was born in London, the only problem is that the exact date and place are unknown. From his writings, Chaucer emerges as a poet of love, both worldly and heavenly. No information exists about his early education, although undoubtedly he would have been as good at French as the Middle English of his day. (Bio.True Story) Chaucer appears in the book of records in 1357, he worked for the queen. In the Middle Ages, it was customary for boys to work for a royal family in order to gain popularity and fame. (GradeSaver) Chaucer's very first poem was "The Book of the Duchess". To write the Duchess's Book Chaucer used a new style of writing, a "dream vision". This new genre was a 13th-century type of love poem, which Chaucer translated into English.
