For Islam to spread, you must have converts and people receptive to the religion. Thus, Islam spread through different people who converted to this religion. Conversions also enjoyed special privileges. In North Africa, people converted so as not to have to pay taxes and to be able to enjoy spiritual freedom (Gilbert & Reynolds 95). In West Africa, they converted to Islam rather than be enslaved (Gilbert & Reynolds 205). So, conversion from Islam happened due to different factors in different regions, but the only way Islam could spread is if people were receptive to it. Even though people had different reasons for converting, they were always open and receptive to it, which led to the
