  • Essay / Analysis of the film Inglorious Basterds by Quentin...

Over time, history tends to distort from its most truthful form. Time causes people to move away from accuracy and become more interested in what they want to remember. Hollywood has a reputation for creating films that appeal more to the average viewer than the history buff. Quentin Taratino's Inglorious Basterds takes a very liberal liberty with a historical story and creates a story that will sell to the crowd. This may seem questionable, but it's often not such a bad thing. Hollywood can take a story that may have connotations, whether serious or dreary, and turn it into something that evokes different emotions, while also addressing historical issues or topics. Taratino chose to make a film of this type because of the way he can depict a very serious subject like no one has done before. He chooses the theme of the Second World War and the Nazis, but does not adopt a generic representation. Many previous films on this subject have been released, either showing heroic Americans fighting against insurmountable odds or abandoned Jews fighting against the worst. While it may seem bleak to make a film that takes such a light-hearted approach to a serious subject, it's part of the story process. As time moves further and further away, there is less and less truth and seriousness in it. He is seen in many other Hollywood films, such as The Patriot (2000), 300 (2007), Braveheart (1995), and Django Unchained (2012). What's interesting about a lot of films like these is that the enemy is often portrayed in an extremely negative way, almost so extreme, that one could compare them to the Nazis. Hollywood uses Nazis to set the level of enemies, it's no worse than them. It's interesting how Taratino portrays the...... middle of paper ...... take with a grain of salt, as everyone will show their true colors when the time comes. Inglorious Basterds creates an atmosphere never equaled in a war film. It addresses the most serious issues in the leisure of a comedy. In the end, the film ends the way the audience wants it to, but not without a little more difficulty than expected. Especially if we remember the type of films Taratino made, there was a real chance that the Nazis would win. They had adversity throughout the movie, they were on their heels, they were the underdogs. The Nazis almost took that one down. Taratino keeps his audience guessing and keeps them on their toes throughout the film. Ultimately, the public is left with a new view of the Nazi, a more respected view. The Nazis are often seen as so evil that we forget what type of opponent they were; they were human.
