Young people in difficultyDespite many obstacles in my life, my community service experience stands out as the most memorable. I was sixteen at the time and just starting my first job at a fast food restaurant. I had to learn to balance community service in the mornings with my job at the local Wendy's. It was both very stressful and influential. I did my community service at a local elementary school. I chose this location because of its relative ease, and it was also somewhere I could easily get to and from. I started my first day very confused and out of character. The school was very bland and it reminded me of when I was in elementary school. As soon as I arrived, I met the school principal. He was my boss and his first impression told me what he was like. He was a fairly easy-going and direct man. I found these qualities to be true in many people I met who were of his same stature. He was about the size of the students present. The irony of this anomaly was the vehicle he was driving, a jacked-up station wagon with massive tires and further illustrated by large round lights placed between the headlights. I would see the director's machine regularly and always think, "How the hell does he get in?" ยป After meeting the director, I was taken to meet my colleagues. I first met the head concierge, named Jim. He was very tall and not very muscular. He was an incredibly nice man and I could tell that he was passionate about his work, but was very reserved socially due to the people he was forced to communicate with on a daily basis. There were two other janitors who were followers of the head janitor. . One of them was a short black man named Carl. He was from Kenya, his English was terrible but he was a man who loved life very much. When he spoke sporadically, it was mostly just to make fun of his janitor associate. The associate concierge was a very exciting person, his name was Rick. Everyone around me made fun of him, sometimes to his face and other times behind his back. It really didn't matter to him because he was mentally unstable..
