Sarah experiences her teenage "rite of passage" to lie or not lie to her parents about her whereabouts. As all adolescents go through stages that involve parent/child separation, the child may move into the parent/child stage, completing the cycle of life. Here we have a teenager forced to make her first adult choice, while she is still only fifteen. In this scenario, we are dealing with a teenager whose schooling is mainly focused on honors classes. She is also, clearly, a girl who obeyed and respected both of her parents; including their own choices for improvement in areas that other adolescents would not benefit from in their education. To respond to Sarah's attitude regarding her curfew, we must situate ourselves in her thinking. Sarah has to deal with a lot of feelings at the moment, before deciding to attend a party, which will cause her to be late for curfew.
