Essay / A Ban on SpongeBob: It Kills Brain Cells - 912
The cartoon about the yellow sponge living in a pineapple under the sea was never intended to be a children's show. Rather, the show was supposed to air on Adult Swim, a television network aimed at viewers 16 and older. The Sponge was given a trial run, but due to its low ratings it was moved to children's networks. Of course, our dear children, innocent and ignorant of the message hidden in the moving images, loved it. In this case, "Bikini Bottom" is SpongeBob's hometown, an inappropriate name for a children's cartoon setting. This shows that the series' transition from Adult Swim to Nickelodeon had no changes to SpongeBob. This means that many other sections of the series are probably not intended for children's eyes or ears. This show is a degradation to young minds and their mental and physiological development and should not continue to be broadcast. You might think I'm just over-examining it, but you only have to look at the characters to see it. The main character, SpongeBob, is constantly high. This is proven when Plankton, the "bad guy", steals part of his DNA and injects it into himself. Plankton began hallucinating non-animated objects dancing to an imaginary beat. Then there's Squidward Tentacles, a narcissistic sociopath. The octopus-like character has a room full of paintings and sculptures of himself made by him. He is also seen constantly isolating himself from others by criticizing every detail of their aspects, especially SpongeBob. Certainly, our goal in educating them is to prevent these types of people from developing in our children. To then become the best possible and choose their company wisely. Patrick Star is the friend who constantly gets bad advice...... middle of paper ......omedian, he used Sandy as the main subject often ending the joke with the squirrels being "stupid". This leads to Sandy often being viewed with suspicion and even having her scientific awards taken away. Apparently the Bikini Bottom science council thought she stole them. Of course, this caused SpongeBob to take back everything he said, but the damage was done. Even in later episodes, the other fish see Sandy as a wild, stupid squirrel that their children should not go near. It's okay to let our kids discriminate, it's not like we have a history of wild discrimination. It's for fun, if no one knows, there's no harm. After all, the show wasn't aired for its marine life facts, because it's completely normal to see a sponge used for cleaning, living in a pineapple, which should have rotted after spending so many time in salt water..
