  • Essay / Global warming, its causes, its effects and the means to put an end to it

What is global warming? According to the online source for English definitions, Dictionary.com, global warming is a gradual increase in the overall temperature of the Earth's atmosphere generally attributed to the greenhouse effect caused by increasing levels of carbon dioxide and d other pollutants. Global warming is caused by natural events and human activity, which are believed to contribute to temperature increases. There are many steps we humans can take to combat global warming. This is a very important topic because we all need to help the environment and not make the situation worse. We human beings are not as innocent as we think when it comes to talking about global warming. In this essay I will talk about the actions we can take, the causes and effects of global warming. The most common problem is deforestation because people keep cutting down trees and we need to plant more trees instead. Deforestation occurs because people cut down trees to expand land for industrialization and globalization for housing and population expansion. If this continues, carbon dioxide will concentrate in the atmosphere, which we don't want, because future generations will have to avoid choosing between extreme climate change or spending hundreds of dollars to avoid it. Another problem is the industrial revolution, as they use fossil fuels to power their machines. Many people may not know it or even think about it, but everything we use is involved in fossil fuels in some way. When we buy something like a phone, to make that phone they use machines that use fossil fuels to power that machine and during the process carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere. The last problem I can think of is methane, considered a greenhouse gas. It can be released into many areas like livestock, oil, landfills and many more. It is more efficient than carbon dioxide because it can trap heat in the atmosphere much more quickly. The effects that global warming will have on the planet are extremely serious and many effects will occur in the future if global warming continues. Some of these effects are an increase in hurricanes and earthquakes, an even greater spread of diseases than they already are, warmer waters, and the melting of polar ice caps. Due to climate change, as the temperature begins to rise, the ice at the North Pole will begin to melt, and then once melted, sea levels will rise because the melting glaciers will then turn into oceans. There is also a loss of species because they are losing their habitat because they are not like us humans who can adapt to temperature changes to continue living. Hurricanes will happen a lot more, causing damage and the government will have to spend tons of money and people will have to find new housing. When a disaster like this occurs, diseases start to spread more quickly, causing more and more people to become infected and the disease could become.
