  • Essay / The importance of coral reefs - 1777

Many tourists travel to different parts of the world today. Most people just want to relax and feel at peace. There are many beautiful beaches available. Being under the scorching sun, having a cold drink in your hand and being with your loved ones seems like the perfect vacation for everyone. People don't know that one of the reasons the oceans are naturally beautiful is because of coral reefs. Today, many coral reef ecosystems are endangered and declining. The government and citizens around the world should start taking this seriously because coral reefs provide many benefits to underwater organisms as well as humans. Most people don't realize that coral reefs are in great danger today. Day by day, more and more coral reefs are suffering from different types of stressors. In the article "Mass Coral Bleaching in 2012 in the Southern Caribbean" by Jahson Alemu and Ysharda Clement reports that marine pollution, carbon dioxide emissions, overfishing, climate change, overfishing and dynamite fishing are leading all to the bleaching of coral reefs. Coral bleaching occurs when corals turn completely white (2014). When coral reefs are white, they are considered weak and unhealthy. According to Jashson Alemu and Ysharda Clenement, mass bleaching occurred and caused “up to 85% bleaching and up to 75% mortality of important reef-building species…in Tobago” in 2005 (2014). The result of this massive laundering should prompt the government and the population to act. Not everyone is aware of this problem and people can start spreading the word and making lifestyle changes. Although coral reefs can recover from bleaching, they could all die from bleaching. As Neal E. Cantin... middle of article ......ordered about the decline of coral reefs. Businesses and government can also do their part by contributing financially to marine life. Many businesses should partner with other businesses to donate some of their money. The government should play a stricter role in this regard. By allowing the governments of other countries to talk to each other, we can make a difference. Organizations can also plant mangroves. This will prevent erosions from occurring. By coming together, they can make a difference and stop the decline of coral reefs. Protecting coral reefs around the world will benefit both humans and non-humans in the long term. By changing our lifestyle to protect coral reefs, humans will also help make our environment green and pollution-free. The food, income and protection that coral reefs provide us are beneficial and without them it could pose a threat to everyone..
