Almost every country around the world has had a revolution because people always wanted change, whether it was social, economic or political, or for those who wanted to control their country. their own lives, rather than being under the rule of a powerful regime. There are two revolutions that caught my attention when I was researching my research paper project. These are the People Power Revolution, which took place in the Philippines in 1986, and the Orange Revolution in Ukraine in 2004. Although these two revolutions have many similarities, such as they both protested nonviolently, there are more differences because of what the purpose of each revolution and how the revolution began; how long was the revolution and who participated in the protest; what non-violent methods or actions they used and the impact of the revolutions they led. In every revolution, there is a goal that every country is fighting for. First, let’s talk about the people power revolution. The Filipino people wanted Ferdinand Marcos, former president of the Philippines for almost 20 years, to end his dictatorship. What began as a reign of honor later turned into a reign of horror. What do I mean by that? During his first term as President of the Philippines, he promised and showed all hopeful Filipinos to have a prosperous Philippines, which he did. However, things started to get complicated when he was in his second and third terms as president. He corrupted and put his own country in debt. He also declared martial law where the country was under the control of militarist forces and the people had no civil rights. Whereas for the Orange Revolution, even though the revolution lasted more than two months, the demonstrations only lasted 6 days. Nearly a million Ukrainians took part in the demonstration. The Pora student group, which suspected electoral fraud, immediately protested to the Ukrainian parliament; the Maidan. People gathered in a sea of orange wearing orange ribbons and orange flags which symbolize the color of Yushchenko's campaign. Despite the cold, people were ready to stay in front of the building day and night. There should be a plan of action or methods to use when involved in a revolution.
