Essay / Jesus Camp - 832
I chose to watch the movie Jesus camp. The other films didn't seem as interesting as Jesus Camp. When I read Summer I thought it would be a good choice since I like watching movies that have kids in them. I also went to a church camp when I was younger, so I thought it would be interesting to see what "Kids on Fire Church Camp" was like compared to my church camp. I will give a brief explanation of the film and talk about the theme of religion and politics. Jesus Camp is a documentary that follows three children at a controversial summer camp that prepares the next generation of conservative Christian political activists. (Netflix) The three children are: Levi, Rachael and Tory. These three children are attending the Kids on Fire Church Camp in Devils Lake, North Dakota. The camp is led by Pentecostal Children's Minister Becky Fischer. Becky says, “I can go to a playground full of kids who don't know anything about Christianity, lead them to the Lord in no time and moments later they can see visions and hear the voice of God because that they are so open. . Evangelical Christians believe that to achieve salvation, they must be “born again” by accepting Jesus as their savior. 43% of evangelical Christians are “born again” before the age of 13. Becky Fischer hosts a children's prayer conference in Lee's Summit, Missouri. She says: “Can God do anything? We can save God, repair the world. It's a sick world, so let's fix it, get out the tools and fix it. We hold the keys, we can change the world.” In the United States, 75% of homeschooled children are evangelical Christians. At Levi's St. Robert, Missouri, home, he declares while doing homework with his mother that creationism is the only answer to everything. Levi's mother... middle of paper... pie shaking in her boots. The intensity that you see in these kids there's no doubt that they have to watch this and say oh my God. What will these children be like when they grow up? It's like animal rights activists are eating your heart out. You want to see intense; you want to see children passionate about Christ. I believe these children made an impact in heaven. God hears the cries of the children. The perfect world will only be perfect when Jesus is extremely Lord. “As Christians, you are the leader, you speak for God. We care about our country and what I mean is we want to get our message across. We can boil it down to simply reducing your message to simple sentences. Let me give you a few simple sentences: It's a new day. Liberalism is dead. The majority of Americans are conservative. You can count on us to come forward and express ourselves. Let the church rise”.
