  • Essay / World peace: what does the word peace mean? - 1678

In a world that changes every minute thanks to technology, the perception of who and what people are is changing just as quickly. In all this change, where is world peace? The world is a place of constant change and much of that change comes from the war machine and technological advancements. Some of humanity's greatest innovations stem from the need to defend the rights and freedom of different people. Armed forces are not only used to protect others, but they are also used for the purpose of ruling or eliminating races perceived as weaker or inferior. For centuries, conflicts have broken out between tribes, countries and nations. If humanity continues on this path, it will no longer be the controlling entity of this planet. In a famous quote, Benjamin Franklin said, “Even peace can be bought at too high a price.” This means that any life lost in war is too high a price to pay. Over the time that humanity has lived on this planet, has this price been paid time and time again in vain? Wars are still being fought today in many countries around the world. When will this end, when will there finally be world peace? Many things will have to change to achieve this noble goal. The goal of world peace is a possibility and may even be realized in the near future, as more countries regain freedom, self-government, and become an integral part of the global community. A global community that not only serves itself, but also helps stabilize the global community. All of these things are only part of what needs to be done to ensure world peace. What will it take to achieve true, lasting and stable peace? First, what does world peace mean? Wikipedia offers this definition: World peace is an ideal of freedom, peace, and...... middle of paper......situations are only the beginning of the process that can lead to world peace . Once all people are considered equal, there may be a chance for lasting world peace.
