Essay / Elder Abuse Essay - 1203
“Elder abuse is a human rights violation and a significant cause of illness, injury, loss of productivity, isolation and despair . » Do we value the elderly population or do we take advantage of them and their weaknesses? This is not only a conflict in today's society, but also in many years past. This is a recurring phenomenon that should be treated more seriously. Whether you are the one being put down or you are a loved one, this is a very depressing question. Based on my personal experiences with this conflict, my perspective is different from others who have not been in my position. Just talking about it gives me a kind of frozen sorrow, knowing that it's not something I myself can change. I may be able to help in part, but the hope of radically changing the statistics is slim to none. One day in the future I will be part of the elderly population and I hope someone will give me the treatment I and everyone else deserve. Aging is part of the human life cycle and some people simply have no respect for it. I wish it was possible to find out the reasons behind people mistreating the elderly and not taking care of them properly. However, this is probably not possible, you can always make assumptions to help you understand a little. What I want to know is what kind of things are happening to older people, the statistics around the world. This is a subject that must be taken seriously. Which leads me to worry, I believe it is in our best interest to care for our elderly loved ones at home, rather than placing them in a nursing home, long term care or geriatric care . There is a growing population of elderly people. across the world who live and increasingly... middle of paper ......ty rather than the quality of care they provide to those who need it. These people may be considered unfit to provide care. Many factors can increase the risk of elder abuse. However, this does not mean that their actions are excused. The intensity of an older person's illness or social isolation may raise awareness of a more serious problem. Everyone is different and seniors may all have different reactions to how they have been mistreated. Caregivers may be pushed beyond their capabilities and may not want to shout at or ignore the desired needs of the older adults in their care. Those who are attentive should be more careful and do things to avoid this eternal predicament. First of all, become aware of seniors and their emotional state. Intervene when you suspect elder abuse and make the best decision about how to report elder abuse..
