Gender inequality has been the focus of concern for many centuries, where discrimination and oppression have become a significant part of inequality among women. Discrimination is a negative attachment, harmful labeling or suggestion related to a certain person, group or object. When discrimination occurs, one of the end effects would be oppression, humiliation and inhumane treatment of people or groups. When one group or individual dominates the other (Thompson, 2003). The Equality Act 2010 was introduced by Parliament to reduce inequality between people of all backgrounds, genders, religions, etc. Under this law, it is illegal to discriminate, harass, and victimize other individuals or groups. Ref. The aim of this essay remains to identify past and present gender inequalities in employment and to identify whether, in this contemporary society, gender inequalities still exist or not. Through the use of relevant theories, I will establish what other factors might contribute to the discrimination and oppression of women. Why are women more likely to be discriminated against and oppressed and how are social, cultural and biological explanations explained in terms of gender inequality? With this awareness, I would like to challenge and address gender inequality in employment.1 HistoryAt the time of World War I in 1914 restrictions were implemented by benevolent men and contributors to remove the employment of women in industry.
