According to the Miriam-Webster Dictionary, a hero is defined as a person admired for courage, exceptional achievements, or noble qualities. Everyone has a hero when they're a child. For example, Superman, the President and many others are known to be obvious childhood heroes, but one hero who very often goes unsung is Eli Cohen. Cohen is a hero because he is fearless and selfless. Cohen was born on December 26, 2014, the child of two Egyptian Jews. After living his entire life harassed by the Muslim Brotherhood, he finally decided, at the age of 22, to settle in the recently created State of Israel. In Israel, the Israeli Secret Service, or MOSSAD, recruited Cohen and gave him the katsa, or field agent title. Due to his recruitment, Cohen did not have time to go to college, but he went to the MOSSAD training school. Once settled in Israel, he had three children with his wife Nadia. Cohen's work at MOSSAD indicated that he traveled a lot and that meant he did not know his children very well. His most famous mission was as a double agent in Syria. The intelligence he recovered was one of the main causes of Israel's victory in the Six-Day War. Cohen died on May 18, 1965. He was publicly hanged after his cover story was exposed while he was delivering messages to the Israeli military from Syria. One act that presents Cohen as heroic dates back to 1960, when he infiltrated as a double agent in Syria. Immediately, Cohen trained and began developing a cover story. He posed as a business and established ties with senior Syrian government officials. While doing most of his work in Damascus, Cohen retrieved a wealth of intelligence that was the main reason Israel won the Six-Day War so quickly. First, there was a movie depicting his life called The Impossible Spy. Second, he was voted 26th on a list of the 200 greatest Israelis of all time. Third, he has a memorial stone in his name on Mount Hertzel. First of all, there are two streets in Israel named after Cohen, one in Tel Aviv and one in Jerusalem. And finally, the Belgian, Canadian and French governments requested that his remains be repatriated to Israel. In reality, Eli Cohen is a world-renowned human being. Because of his selflessness and fearlessness, Eli Cohen is a true hero. He possesses all the traits a hero should have, he has made an impact on many around him and is recognized internationally as a hero.
