Essay / Impact of Divorce on Family Relations - 1569
According to Robert Henley, professor of psychology at the University of Nebraska, in his article "A Review of Divorce: Causes and Consequences", he states that "the fact of having children in the family influences the decision.” divorce” (Henley p.445). Children require a parent's full attention; they constantly want to be taken care of, and most of the time this can be stressful for the mother or father. This usually takes a toll on parents who weren't planning to have children. When either parent is overwhelmed by these new responsibilities, the only option they have is to get rid of these obligations and the only way is to resort to divorce. In his article, he also mentions other factors commonly known to influence divorce. One of them, in particular, is “a divorce-prone personality” (Henley, p. 145). It can easily be argued that a couple with this personality does not have the personality that a marriage requires and that the probability of this marriage lasting is very high.
