They have difficulty distinguishing fantasy from reality. They have difficulty managing their daily emotions, interacting with others and managing their daily lives. It is remarkable that the schizophrenic main character, John Nash, has the ability to overcome his mental disorder with determination and perseverance. Nash says, “I still see things that aren’t there. I simply choose not to acknowledge them. As with a mental diet, I choose not to satisfy certain appetites; like my appetite for models; perhaps my appetite to imagine and dream. (“A Beautiful Mind”). Nash's disorder leads him to believe that he was working for a Department of Defense agent named William Parcher. Schizophrenia also makes him believe that William Parcher is a real person and in return he does whatever the man tells him to do. John Nash begins to deal with paranoia and makes his behavior worsen. Nash also begins to lash out and become very angry because of the anxiety William brings to him.
