IntroductionFirst, I want to explain why I chose this topic to present. When I was learning English at school, I was always curious why this or that word was pronounced differently and somehow strangely. My teacher tried to do his best and explain but somehow I was always unsatisfied. Now that I am a student and learning the English language thoroughly, I have a great chance to discover many things and give answers to those questions that bothered me so much. I am also a future teacher and I should know everything about English. The topics of my presentation are etymology and borrowings. As etymology is a study of the origin of words, their changes over a certain period of time, I hope to be able to gain a lot from this presentation. On the other hand, etymology is very interesting and makes you go deeper and deeper into the study of words. Theoretical Inquiry (рпритуритритритритритритр) is one of the main branches of lexicology. It helps us to study the history of words, their origin, how they changed their meaning, their spelling, their pronunciation, what is their ancestral form, the assimilation of English vocabulary with others, etc. Like every branch of linguistics, etymology also has many methods used to study the origin of the word. The methods are: philological research, dialectological data, comparative method, sementic change. Philological research is a method that helps understand changes in the form and meaning of words using older texts. Dialectological data is a method that shows that word meaning and form can be changed between dialects.
