  • Essay / Social Learning Theory and Labeling Theory - 770

Social learning theory is one of the most well-known theories and has been studied by many people. The social learning theory programs available are primarily crime-fighting programs. This program encourages people to think about what they actually did and turn the negative into positive behavior. Labeling theory does not offer any real programs, but as society learns more about these specific theories, our treatment of others evolves as well. Since labeling theory can happen anywhere, it is believed that society gives the person a different outcome. So, instead of shaming a person, you should use it as a learning tool to not commit this act again. This will be a way for the person to change their label and be more open to changing their outlook. In conclusion, both social learning theory and labeling theory are widely held. Society should understand why crime occurs regarding theories of crime in order to mitigate it. There are many examples that prove both theories. Finally, there are programs that benefit members of society and through these programs we can mitigate crime around us.
