  • Essay / Multiple Sclerosis Case Study - 1605

Symptoms depend on the location of the demyelination and the severity of the damage (NMSS, 2014). Early symptoms can range from muscle spasms, loss of vision, balance problems, incontinence, tremors or even depression (MSF, 2009). Symptoms may also be strong at first, and not appear for long periods of time, or appear quickly and all at once. Symptoms depend on whether the damage is located in sensory neurons, neurons, or the cerebellum. Sensory neurons are neurons that bring pain and sensations into the body, while motor neurons carry out actions and movements (MSF, 2009). The cerebellum is responsible for speech, balance, tremors and fine coordination (Lucchinetti, 2011). Patients may go through phases of severe attacks and remission, depending on the severity of the disease.
