Fear is something that controls all individuals, not just women. Women probably suffer the most from fear because of their inability to defend themselves. Women according to our text do not drive at night or even alone for fear of something that might happen, they change jobs or avoid certain places due to lack of fear. I'm afraid that something will happen to my children and that I will be alone and unable to stop it. My fear is so great that I won't watch certain films; for example Pris. Plus, I'm afraid I can't afford to go to the local mall alone. I think this fear is fueled by the fact that local media always report crimes committed against the women themselves. All you hear about is women being attacked while leaving the mall here. Also, I have a friend who had her two children with her at the local Walmart. As she tried to help her children into the car, a young man snatched her purse and knocked her over. To this day, I don't go to Walmart without my husband, for fear of this happening to me.
